Atkins Diet: The Importance of Water
ADVERTISEMENTS
Welcome back!
In this video, I deal with the importance of water in a low carb or specifically Atkins Diet. Like any diet, water is important to make you fill full, keep you hydrated for exercise, and to quench your thirst. Its importance can not be stressed enough in a low carb diet though as its additional benefits, such as: * its role in metabolizing fat * its role in reducing Induction Flu symptoms * its role in flushing the toxins and by-products (like ketones) from the system through your kidneys I deal with the quesiton of how much is required per day and even make some suggestions on how to make it more palatable for those hydro-phobic people like I was. My suggestion is to look at water intake like a necessity similar to exercise. For somethings you just need to get it over with and get on with life. Eventually, it won’t seem as bad as it might when you are first starting, and given the prospect of lower than optimal weight loss, why wouldn’t you drink it? Thanks again for all the views and comments.

Have done Atkins many times over the years. This is the first time I’ve included at least 8 cups of water a day and more importantly the first time I’ve had no headaches and no nausea. I only drink bottled water, no diet drinks etc. just water. I also have 1 espresso a day and maybe 1 cup of black tea. I’ve lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks so you are so right. Thanks for keeping us on track.

Like I said, drink half your weight (in pounds) in ounces of water each day, so if you weighed 300 pounds, you would need to drink 150 oz water each day (5 quarts of water).

drink half my weight??? so if i weighed 40kg u expect me to drink 20k’s of water a day? thats hard…and expensive

Yes, Aspartame is discouraged on Atkins.

Isn’t phenylanine banned when on atkins, because I have stayed away from my 5 gum all this time. I drink more than a gallon of water per day and on an extreme day it might be 1.5 gallons.

I agree wholeheartedly. The honesty really touches people.

Thank you for watching!??!
thank you for posting.
It takes time to prepare these posts and I just wanted to return to you that WITHOUT these posts I seriously doubt I would be able to make sense of everything… but you explain things so well!
And I’m just one person… i dare think how many hundreds of others have found enormous value in the time you take to make each post a valuable resource of motivation and general knowledge.
Thank you.

You are very welcome. I am glad I can provide whatever assistance and repay the favor others have paid to me.

I can’t thank you enough for your help. Your story is an inspiration and I use it for motivation everyday. Continue doing what you are doing, because I can tell you that there are many more people just like me whole life you are helping to change. HOOAH!

Yes, track your hunger and the foods / carbs you eat. I ate considerably more Calories on Atkins than any other weight loss plan and lost more weight. You can overeat on Induction, but it is extremely difficult to do. Let your hunger be your guide.
Plus in the absence of insulin there is no path way for dietary fat to be stored on the body.

Thank you for your videos. They are extremely helpful. I am in the Army as well and have gained a good bit of weight lately, following a foot injury. I am trying to get back into shape and am starting the Atkins diet.
The biggest question I have is about caloric intake. Are calories insignificant since I am in the induction phase?

This was great! I hope this gets me going too! (I mean with the weightloss…ha!)

You are very welcome! I am glad you are back on target. I hope my other videos help as much as this one did.

Thank you soooo much for hitting on the importance of water. I have been on the Atkins for 2 weeks. The first week I was drinking lots of crystal light more than 64 ounces, and I lost weight. However, the second week I was stalling, and did not understand why. After watching your video, I have noticed I have lost 5 lbs today…3 days after drinking straight water. Kudos! I will continue to watching your videos as you really explain the whys of doing things.

thank you for replying! I really appreciate it. These are questions I’ve been kicking around for a while, and it’s good to have an answer from someone who has had such success

Only water counts as water.
Perhaps later after the weight loss is assured in a month or two, you can start substituting others for water, but you will have to guard against stalls.
You can also load the water up after school and be reasonably as effective as drinking throughout the day. Sure, you’ll be a bit more dehydrated during the day, but you will still be encouraging the body to flush the fat-soluble toxins and excess water.

You mentioned that sodas would not be considered part of your water intake. How about unsweetened decaf iced tea? (if you know) It’s easier for me to drink unsweetened tea than straight water, but I’ll do it if I have to.
Also, because of my job, it’s impossible for to be running to the restroom all the time. In your opinion would drinking the majority of my water in the late afternoon and evening be as effective as drinking throughout the day? Like, maybe 70% in a 4-5 hour span?

It’s subject to the limit of 3 sweeteners per day, and I initially would NOT count it against my water intake. You can flavor your water like this video says with lemon or lime juice. Later on after your weight loss pattern is set in OWL, you can start counting it, and then ensure you still keep losing.
